This quick start gets you from zero to a working API call. You will need a SyllHost account with API access enabled.
Step 1: Enable API access
API access is enabled per customer. Open a ticket or contact us and ask for the Reseller API. Our team will switch it on and tell you your discount and rate limit.
Step 2: Add funds
Every API order is paid from your account balance. Add funds in your client area. You can also ask what minimum balance is required on your account.
Step 3: Create an API key
- Log in and open API access in your client area.
- Create a key. It starts with
sh_live_and is shown only once, so copy it now. - Optionally restrict the key to your server's IP addresses.
Step 4: Your first call
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer sh_live_xxxxxxxx" https://syllhost.com/api/v1/account
The answer shows your balance, minimum balance, how much you can spend, your discount and your rate limit:
{"data": {"balance": "92.00", "minimum_balance": "5.00", "available_to_spend": "87.00", "discount_percent": "20.00"}}
Step 5: List plans and check a domain
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer sh_live_xxx" "https://syllhost.com/api/v1/products?type=wordpress" curl -H "Authorization: Bearer sh_live_xxx" "https://syllhost.com/api/v1/domains/check?domain=example.com"
Prices in these responses already include your reseller discount and are exactly what you will be charged.
Step 6: Place an order
Ordering needs an Idempotency-Key header so a retry can never charge you twice. Read idempotency keys explained and the full guide.
Troubleshooting
- 401 invalid_api_key: wrong, missing or revoked key.
- 403 api_not_enabled: access has not been enabled for your account yet.
- 403 ip_not_allowed: your request came from an IP not on the key's allowlist.
- 400 https_required: use https:// not http://.
What the responses look like
Every successful response is wrapped in data. Lists add meta with page information, and you can paginate with ?page= and ?per_page= up to 100. Money values are strings with two decimals in USD, for example "8.00", which avoids rounding problems. Dates use ISO 8601. Errors always use one shape with a code and a message.
Good habits from the first day
- Store your key in an environment variable, never in code.
- Restrict the key to your server's IP address.
- Cache the product and domain price lists for a few minutes.
- Log the order number and your own reference for every order.
- Read
available_to_spendbefore big batches.
